Best Shelby book out there
This book, unlike previous efforts on the topic, tells the entire Shelby story from the early 260 Cobras to today's monster Shelby GT500s. While most books have featured a narrow band of Shelby history illustrated with vintage black and white photos, this one covers the entire spectrum with a balanced combination of old black and white photos (many not seen before) and a plethora of crisp color photos taken in more recent times. Every model, both old and new, is deliciously illustrated. This book is complete in comprehensively documenting not only the better known Shelby efforts but all of the side trips he made as well (Sunbeam Tiger, Viper, Toyota 2000 GT, Shelby Dodges, Series 1). The author's passion and expertise permeate the book. While authoritative, the text is easy to read due to an engaging prose style. This book is a must buy for both new and established collectors of the marque as well as those with a more general interest in one of the greatest automotive...

Finally a book worthy of the man and his cars!
My first car was a 69 Shelby Mustang GT 350 convertible and I drove it everyday from 1974 until 1984 and have been a student of Shelby and his cars ever since. Presently as an owner of three vintage Shelby Mustangs and two new Shelby Supersnakes I continue to drive and enjoy Shelby's rolling works of art and have probably read every book ever written about him including the SAAC registry cover to cover. Colin Comer's Sequel to his best selling Million Dollar Muscle car book is simply in my view the first Shelby book worthy of the man and his cars. More importantly even if your not a car person Comer's writing style is witty and irreverent making it an easy and fascinating historical read for anyone curious about a certified American icon. Carroll Shelby will be remembered as one of the two or three most significant people in automotive history and this book artfully takes you along for the ride on one of the best adventures anyone ever turned into a life.

Great book on Shelby!
I just got my new book by Colin Comer, and, was truly amazed at the amount of new information, and especially, never before seen pictures that the author has been able to include. Lots of books have been written about Shelby cars, but, this has got them all beat by a wide margin.

Terrific debut
I've been mourning the loss of John D. MacDonald's Travis McGee, beach bum and knight errant, since MacDonald passed away. Finally, someone worthy enough came along to fill in that void.Shelby has written the perfect PI novel, and the best debut of the year. Noah Braddock has got style, wit, and guts to spare. If you love mysteries, you can't go wrong with this one. And if you love private eyes, you'll discover a new hero.

Not a Laid Back Surfer Mystery
Considering the surfer theme, I thought this was going to be somewhat of a take-off on Richard Barre's Wil Hardesty. Noah Braddock is nothing like Wil Hardesty and I still loved the book. Publisher's Weekly's review said that "the verbal banter seems a bit forced at times" and another review commented on the "tough guy posturing" which I admit gave me pause before buying the book. I wasn't rolling on the floor, but the dialogue between Noah and his six-foot-nine friend Carter and with other characters was hilarious. The story throughout flowed easily, even while going back into Noah's past; the characters were easy to keep straight and while I guessed the murderer towards the end, it certainly wasn't obvious. In short, Killer Swell provided what I most look for in a mystery -- pure entertainment with a backbone. I plan on buying Jeff Shelby's newly released book.

The Last Book On Cobras You'll Ever Need To Buy
I've read every Cobra book ever printed, since Carroll Shelby's first book, "The Cobra Story," in 1965. I own an original Cobra, so I'm not some young buck, full of testosterone, who has stars in his eyes and just arrived at the party. I have to say that this book is one of the very best--if not the best--book about the history of Cobras ever written. High praise, but everything about this book is spot-on. The photo quality is top shelf, and even though it is impossible to put a book on Cobras together without using some photos taken in the 1960s which have not already been used somewhere else, author Comer has chosen wisely and has provided intelligent and purposeful captions for them. The color shots which are much more current--most showing cars which have been restored--are nothing short of heart-stopping. The colors virtually drip off the page. The Cobra story has been told and retold ad infinitum, to the point where there are very few surprises left when it is told...

THe comprehensive guide to The Shelby Cobra! LOVE IT!
I have only thumbed through the photo filled pages, and read a few bits and bobs, but so far this book is blowing my mind! I love the bright shining photos, the most excellent stories told, and the smell of the pages filled with history of an era gone by. I strongly suggest you buy this wonderful book about a most amazing car, the people who designed it, built it, drove it and fixed it. You will get your money's worth, I promise you!

Shelby Cobra Fifty Years
I've read Colin Comer's other books (Million Dollar Muscle Cars and The Complete Book of Shelby Automobiles) and now his newest book. These books are unlike anything else being published in the field of automotive writing/journalism. The Shelby books contain outstanding historical information combined with original photographs that I have never seen anywhere else. The amount of research that went into making these publications is extraordinary. The quality of the writing is superb as is the quality of the book itself. To say that these books, especially the Shelby books, are of the "coffee table" type is completely inaccurate. They are so much more meaningful than just a thick book with great photos. I would highly recommend the book(s) for racing enthusiasts, car collectors (and those of us that want to be!), Shelby and Ford fans, or just people that enjoy good writing and have an appreciation for something uniquely American.

Product Description

"I will cut to the chase and give you the Official Ringing Endorsement: That book is the best car book I've read this year. It's wonderfully assembled and passionately written, and it takes a refreshingly new angle on a much-discussed subject. Buy it. (Disclosure: I receive no financial benefit from sales of this book.) In addition to documenting the history and personalities behind one of America's most wonderful automobiles, it's just plain fun to flip through." - Autos.msn.com

In the early 1960s Carroll Shelby, a Texas chicken farmer turned champion race driver, had the audacity to think he could start his own car manufacturing company. To further emphasize the gargantuan proportions of his vision, Shelby decided his company would manufacture nothing but ultra-high-performance sports cars, beginning with the landmark Cobra, introduced in 1962. To the amazement of everyone except Ol’ Shel’ himself, Shelby Automobiles succeeded beyond anyone’s wildest expectations, building cars that would provide the benchmarks for performance (benchmarks that stand to this day) and winning world championships in the process. Shelby Cobra Fifty Years is a complete history of Shelby’s Cobra sports cars. Beginning with a prologue about the events that led up to Shelby’s decision to build a high-performance sports car, the main portion of the book tells the history of the production Cobra street cars and race cars, ending with an epilogue about the continuation cars.

Liquid Smoke
I have to admit I read Liquid Smoke because it was offered free by Amazon but after I read it, I immediately went on-line and purchased Jeff's first two books. Even though I read them out of order, I was blown away. It takes alot for me to say "I was sad when the book ended" but that is exactly how I felt about Jeff's Noah Braddock Mysteries. Now he needs to get cracking and get a new one out.

Another book in the Noah Braddock series
WICKED BREAK by Jeff ShelbyJuly 12, 2006Amazon Rating: 4/5 starsThis is my second novel by Jeff Shelby and as with the previous book, WICKED BREAK was very entertaining as well as a fast read. WICKED BREAK is another thriller featuring private investigator Noah Braddock, who grew up and currently lives in the San Diego coastal area of Southern California. His love of surfing and the ocean is a big part of these stories, as they define his personality and is what is unique about this protagonist. In this second novel, Noah is approached by Peter Pluto, asking him to locate Peter's missing brother Linc. Nearly the entire novel is Noah's search for Linc, while all around him dead bodies are being found. Noah as always gets into a lot of trouble by taking the law into his own hands, and not letting the police know what is going on. A few times he comes close to being a dead body himself, but with dumb luck he always survives...

Breezy good time
I'm starting Killer Swell after reading Wicked Break--so I can say that Wicked Break was good enough to make me want to read another Noah Braddock mystery. For years I lived in San Diego, and Shelby has the ambience down just right, and he doesn't over- or under-do it. The characters make a good ensemble to work with the main character for a good series of novels. Braddock is conflicted enough to make him human, but not so much to make the reader neurotic. The story carries the reader along, but near the end it seems a bit contrived and ends on a somewhat disappointing note. However, it's not disappointing enough to keep me from reading more of these novels.I'd really like to see an OTL tournament novel with the main characters.

Dusty Would Be Proud!
There are two ways this CD could have gone, and thankfully it's not crap. She's taking on Ms. Springfield like a seasoned heartbroken champ (which of course she is). She does it the way it should be done; every song here is sparse, fully realized and void of emptiness. The major difference between Springfield and Lynne is in delivery, while most of what Springfield does on record is almost a heartbreaking, soulful coo. Lynne's voice is strongly powerful. Songs such as "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me," with its acappella, slightly echoed, opening, tricks the ear as if it's going to break out into the loud ripping rendition that it always gets. But Lynne plays it down, turns up regret and conviction in her voice and it's now a country torch ballad."Breakfast in Bed" is still a sultry, slippery ode, but Shelby's vocals are so assured, turning the lyrics almost into a demand and it works. The show-stopper is her take on "Anyone Who Had a Heart." She...

Amazing Shelby
I first heard of Shelby Lynn in 2000 when "I Am Shelby Lynn" was released and got to see her intimate show upstairs at the Parasdiso in Amsterdam. The 50 or 60 people in the room were literally blown away by her performance, which was gutsy, raw and unforgettable, just like her album, I Am Shely Lynn. Since then I have eagerly awaited each of her new releases, (and her return to Holland which has yet to happen, unfortunately). Just a Little Lovin' is Shelby's no frills, stripped down interpretations of Dusty Springfields songs and her sultry, smokey and, thankfully, not over the top vocals and subtle production make them work so well. Bravo, Shelby Lynn! Dusty would be proud.

I Am Shelby Lynne

It's a risky move for any singer to attempt a direct ascent on the towering peaks of Dusty Springfield's evergreen legacy. (Rolling Stone once called Dusty in Memphis the third most "essential" rock album by a woman.) Just a Little Lovin' achieves the unlikely: a tribute to an immortal artist which both glorifies its subject and elevates the worshipper kneeling at her altar. Lynne's 2001 breakthrough, I Am Shelby Lynne, was both utterly fresh and nostalgically infused with a Memphis-like spirit. Much of Just a Little Lovin' is as familiar as an old pair of shoes. Lynne's original contribution, "Pretend," fits snugly between the classics, but it's the loose, practically improvised vibe of this recording that breathes new life into Bacharach and David's "Anyone Who Had a Heart" and, especially, Randy Newman's "I Don't Want to Hear It Anymore." Genius producer Phil Ramone lends the entire collection the kind of intimacy he brought to Paul Simon and Billy Joel's most atmospheric 1970s recordings. Restrained instrumentation--often simply guitar, upright bass, a sprinkling of piano, and light percussion--turn even the teenage bubble-gum anthem "I Only Want to Be with You" into a sultry meditation. It's hard to imagine another recent album more successful in melding retro-reverence with contemporary moderation. The result arouses emotion even as it enchantingly relaxes. --Ben Heege Top to learn more

A Quiet Stunner
As one of Dusty Springfield's biggest fans, I was both excited about and afraid to hear what Shelby Lynne was going to do with some of the songs most identified with the Great Beehived One. It kind of worried me that Ms. Lynne was going to release a "stripped down" production. After all, Dusty is most identified with what she herself called those "big ballady things," huge, Italian-style production numbers with all the stops pulled out, and the singer at full throttle. On the other hand, it was encouraging to hear that Lynne was not trying to imitate Dusty or invade her territory. Dusty, after all, had turned in the definitive versions of these numbers so, according to Shelby, the job was to interpret the songs in her own way, and as a reminder to her listeners of Springfield's neglected catalog. Today, Dusty's music reaches an ever-widening circle of discerning listeners, and is being rediscovered by old fans and revealed to younger pop music lovers. Yet, for all the burnishing...

Fantastic Detail-Great Model
I recently ordered this engine from Amazon and it was the only one of four engines that could be shipped here to "Down Under', why the others are not available is a mystery and is disappointing. Nonetheless, this model is a fantastic replica of the legendary Shelby Cobra 'Big Block'in all it's finite detail. Down to the embossing on the rocker covers, this model has it all. The engine comes fully assembled and everything from the original motor is faithfully replicated. At 1:6 Scale, the detail is absolutely first class and should please any fan of this iconic motor. You can almost hear the rumble through the exhausts...Well done to the manufacturers, these models are sure to be a talking point in any bloke's shed, or on his desk.

Nice for the money
I rate this the same as I have rated other engine models from Liberty Classics in this series:I am quite happy with this model as I believe you get what you pay for. Mostly plastic parts and I am not sure the term I 'die-cast' applies (as most people associate die-cast with metal parts). Nevertheless it is, at least in my book, worth the $25 or so I paid for it.
